Protecting Children, Building Futures: Community-Based Prevention and Support Against

Child Trafficking and Exploitation

1.      Background and Rationale

Children in informal settlements and disadvantaged communities remain particularly vulnerable to trafficking and exploitation due to poverty, unemployment, lack of education, and weak social support systems. In areas such as the Makause Informal Settlement, children often face daily risks of abuse, neglect, and recruitment into exploitative practices.

Despite national frameworks and policies in South Africa to combat child trafficking, gaps persist in awareness, victim support, and community-based prevention. CLR Foundation, with its experience in youth empowerment, digital education, and humanitarian assistance, is well-positioned to implement a human rights-based approach that prioritizes child protection, active participation of children, and restorative support for victims.

Our Plan

Raise awareness among children, families, schools, and authorities on child trafficking and exploitation risks.

  1. Identify and refer vulnerable children and victims to appropriate protection and rehabilitation services.

  2. Provide psychosocial support and empowerment opportunities for affected children, ensuring their voices and participation guide project actions.

  3. Strengthen local actors’ capacity (teachers, social workers, police, community leaders) to respond effectively to trafficking risks.

  4. Advocate for improved policies and accountability to defend children’s rights at community and municipal levels.

How We Make a Difference

Support for the Elderly

Many elderly individuals are left without proper care, companionship, or resources. We regularly distribute fresh fruits, vegetables, and essential supplies to old age homes and underprivileged seniors. Beyond material support, we offer emotional and spiritual encouragement, ensuring that no elderly person feels forgotten.

Educational Assistance for Children

Education is the foundation of a brighter future, yet many children lack the basic tools needed to succeed. We provide school uniforms, books, stationery, and financial aid to ensure that children from disadvantaged backgrounds have an equal opportunity to learn and grow.

Community Development Initiatives

We believe in sustainable change. That’s why we partner with local organizations and businesses to create long-term solutions for poverty alleviation, healthcare access, and community well-being.

Special Needs Support

We work closely with special needs schools and organizations to assist children with disabilities and learning challenges. Whether through donations, mentorship programs, or tailored support initiatives, our goal is to create inclusive opportunities for every child.
